It was an historic event and i spent the whole night in SOAS watching this moments of 'history'.

It was an historic event and i spent the whole night in SOAS watching this moments of 'history'.
To start with, almost everyone was an Obama fan or supporter. Why this? I am not saying that they should not support Obama. In search of reasons as to why people were supporting Obama, i embarked on a mission to interview willing bodies to find out more. Only a few people passed the test to get interviewed. I mean not 'drunken' and not in a rush.
The main reason why most people were supporing him was - He will bring change to the world and also he would make history because he will be the first black president of the United states of America.
Others were of the view that, he was not the ideal candidate but was better than McCain.
I have tried so hard to look at Obama and find how he will change the world. I am still finding hard reasons as to why he would really change foreign policy in a significant way. I do understand the fact that he is may not be your Mr Premptive strike and hopefully he will close Guantanamo bay. But will he really end the Imperialistic policies of the United States of America. Is he going to actually employ favourable policies towards africa because his dad is kenyan? I am sceptical about that in general. Maybe i have not made my point very clear on this but i hope in due course i will be able to come back to address this issue in my opinion.
Will Obama really be able to withdraw troops and end the war in Iraq. Every rationale soul should be wishing that the war will be ended. But will it really? It would be great if we could utilise 'tele-future-scopes' to see what will prevail in three years time.
Obama's election, has sent a positive vibration around the world. It has shown how far the American Dream has come and how this conutry has gone in breaking boundaries built along racial lines. It has shown that colour is irrelevant on paper and it is all about content.
Will the United Kingdom learn from this?
The fact that there is something called black on black crime alone in the UK shows how far the United Kingdom has got to go.
Do not fool yourself. If colour is not important in the UK, crime will not be defined along racial lines.
The number of black MP's also is an example of the dire state of representation within government.
Yes we can is a slogan that is being adopted here, but the fact of the matter is that, I am of view that, the work needed to be done in the uk is more colossal than in US. This is not based on my experience working with upcoming leaders within the african community and not having a clue as to what life is like in the United States of America. You should however, not jump your guns to say that i am being pessimistic. If you have taken the risk of touring and networking with ethnic minorities then you would be understanding where i am coming from.
The basic reason for this opinion, is based on the fact that ethnic minorities are still having to break out of thier shell in most british university unions. Whether you like it ot not it is a fact. Despite this fact, it is should also be acknowledged that some unions are far ahead in terms of representation relative to others.
Someone mentioned during an interview on the night of the presidential elections ' in the uk not everyone is counted'. Why is this so?
When will everyone be counted. It was also mentioned that 'when some sections of the community are counted it is only for negative reasons.
Where are we in the Uk? Who are we? If we can answer these two questions in unison than all is 'Crimbo'. Where is the tide heading. The complacency within the communities in tandem with the lack of oppurtunities as percieved by some, leaves some people of minority origins not interested in politics.
It must also be said that, Race issues are major problems in the uk. There are major issues when it comes to talking about race, well that is, if there is anything like race.
Differnt communities hold differnt views about others in the households but when they leave the house, they are something else because they have to be seen to be like that. This is no joke, it is a fact. Friends from differnt parts of the world can attest to this behind a screen.
What will obama bring to the UK? This is a question that we all should be able to answer. In my opinion Obama will only bring to you what you want to achieve and ready to achieve. The only message is hope and change.
No more no less. Almost everyone acknowledges the need to hope and the need for change. The major questions here in the Uk that people should be asking themselves are these:
What hope do i envisage?
What change do i want?
The simple answer to me are this:
Hope
- Every individual has a hope or dream and nowone is gong to achieve that dream for you. You have to work and sacrifce for that dream.
Change
Everyone wants something(s) to change. You have to be the catalyst for that change.
