When we say we staind for minority students we mean it. We bring news relating to minority students to you before the main newpapers do.

WE reported at http://www.minoritystudents.co.uk/node/811in(Tue, 2008-08-19 17:14) that there were allegations of blatant racism within the NUS.

Well a week later the guardian reported it and about a two weeks later the daily mail followed with an article. I actually had an editor from the daily main contacting me via email. How interesting i thought.

It shows to me that, if we are passionate about something and we are ready to fight for it we can succeed. What would have happend if minority students did not make this incident public. Well, i leave you to answer that. I am still of the view that, this incident is just a tip of the ice-berg of what ethnic minority students face in uk universities face. I am not just talking. I went through the system as a black african student.

Well, i was reading the very expedite news from the daily mail ( reporting incident after one month wooooow). I bet if, it were a knife crime involving two black people, the news would have been all over the place.

But how come that when incidents like this involving white students occur it is not reported early enough or given the level of coverage they deserve.

Well we at minority students cover these issues and give it the level of importance that our audience attach to such incidences.

Ok, enough of this, i go straight to the point. I was reading the daily mail article and in as much as both incidents are important, i will deal more on the Craig Cox Incident. As an african man, i think that although both are critical, the alleged impudence and sheer racism shown shown by Mr Cox of Nottingham university needs to be looked at critically.

Why am i say this. I am of the veiw that slavery is a very serious and undisputedly the worst crime committed in the history of mankind. Furhtermore, most of the prominent socio-economic issues faces by the black world on the longitudes and latitudes of this planet of ours can be directly attributed to slavery and her first born colonisation and grandchild globalisation.

These three family members (slavery, colonisation and globalisation) were born by the white man or should i say the white man's institutions.

The daily mail says that, the incidents was alledged to have occurred during a role-playing exercise at an NUS conference.

''The allegations relate to a role-playing exercise at an NUS event which was aimed at helping young student officers think about society and education.

Mr Cox denied any wrongdoing and accused the NUS of a witchhunt.

Futher more Mr Cox uttered the following statements:

1) 'The real story here is that the NUS wants to run a show trial that would make Stalin blush. Due process, natural justice and fairness are, in NUS eyes, mere concepts that can be readily ignored when it suits them'.

My view of this statement. This statement makes me cringe.Talking about natural justice??!!!! Mr Cox you need to go back to read the history your forefathers left you ( not direct relative i mean but on the basis of national identity)

Mr Cox goes on to further say:
'These witch-hunts have got to stop. It's about time the NUS started representing ordinary students again and stopped acting as a front for Left-wing zealots.'

Who is an ordinary student. Are african students not ordinary students. Who are the left wing zealots?? I really think that Craig Cox is really disillusioned to say the least.

To start with, in the event of a role-play where there are students from all diverse groups, i really do not think that the best role play example is to say ' Bring slavery back'. Is it?

I will go to ahead to draw parallel analogy similar to what he said. What would the reaction be if someone said either of the following:

Bring the Holocaust Back
Bring 9/11 Back;
Bring back the london bombers; or
Bring Back IRA Bombings in UK

If any of these had been said by a student at an NUS there would be a national uproar from all corners of the british media.

What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

The sad truth however is that, all the above mentioned atrocities are nowhere near the act of enslavement by europeans ( specifically) of the black african man.

SO HOW COME THE MEDIA AND EVERYONE SHUTS UP WHEN MR COX SAYS BRING SLAVERY BACK.

There are alot of hypocrites out there who only pay lip service and overlook the real issues at stake and such heidious statements can be made without any severe consequences.

Trust me i think if you said that you agreed and support 9/11 bombers which is liek saying Bring 9/11 bombers back, you will in jail.

So how come that, people can say things about slavery and nothing is done. I am not saying that he should be put into jail. All i am tryign to say is that the european system is illogical and hypocritical.

But most importantly, Until those affected by such discrimination and atrocities can stand up for themselves, they will languish in the abyss of mental slavery.

I had one black student ask me, 'What was the context within which Mr Cox said Bring Back Slavery'. My answer to that is, if you think you need to know the context in which such a statement was made then you are enslaved mentally simple as that.

Why do i say that. I will say one quick thing. Imagine a Mr X say 'let us make rape legal' and someone says ' In what context do you want to make rape legal. DO you get my drift. There is no need for a context to say that. Simple as that. It is a principle. You cant rape, you cant enslave. These acts are only committed by irrational and immoral beings.

On this note, i will say this. If Mr Cox says that bring back slavery in a role play, i will be the first person on his door protesting against him. Because there is no smoke without fire.

He gets away with this and how do you expect black students he reprents to feel. They can approach him about anything.

And we all know that a stitch in time, saves nine.

Bless
Kobby
